Happy Birthday to Mama!

Today I turned 28 years old. I had such a great day with John and am so glad we got to spend quality time together. We dropped Oliver off at Grandma & Grandpa Stenstrom's then went for a couple's massage in the morning (and used the soaking pool and steam room at Dosha– awesome!). We spent the afternoon with Oliver at our home, then dropped him off with Uncle Steve & Aunt Brianne so we could go to Ciao Vito for dinner. The last stop of the day was back to my parent's house for ice cream cake (my favorite!). It was such a special day and I'm so excited for this next year of my life! Here's to another exciting year~

Someone has discovered his hands!

Oliver has become more aware of his hands the past few days, and always seems to have them folded in front of his chest. He plays with his fingers, and it looks like he's up to something. Perhaps he's plotting his revenge against us for letting him stew in a dirty diaper this morning...

Oliver's 2-month check up

Today was Oliver's 2-month check up and we are so proud of him! He weighed in at 13 lbs., 1 oz, is 25.5" long and his head is 16" around. Dr. Bengtson walked in and the first thing he said was, "I take back everything I said about having weight gain troubles at his 2-week check!" Our little man is growing beautifully and we couldn't be happier. Dr. B looked him over and said everything seems to be going perfect. He checked out the cradle cap and rash on his cheeks and belly which he said are all normal and nothing to be worried about. The rash looks to be caused by over-productive oil glands, so be sure to wash him well and keep him moisturized with Vaseline or a good lotion. After he looked him over, the nurse came in to give him his shots... That was definitely more traumatizing for me than it was for Oliver! He screamed after being poked but calmed down quickly. For the next 2 hours he was super calm and content, so we thought he'd be just fine! Until about an hour ago when he started to cry, and cry some more. We gave him a small dose of Tylenol and put him down for a nap, so I'm hoping he stays asleep for a little while to recuperate. We are just so thankful he is healthy and happy (most of the time, anyway!) Here's our sweetie-pie with his battle wounds covered oh-so-nicely with dinosaur band-aids:

Oliver at 2 Months

At 2 months, Oliver:

-is BIG! He's 13 lbs., 1 oz (75th percentile), 25.5" long (97th percentile), and 16" head (80th percentile)
-is wearing most 3 month clothes but has outgrown his Circo brand 3 month sleepers. Carter's 6 month pajamas fit him perfectly length-wise!
-still in size 1 diapers (although I'm sure a 2 would fit him great!)
-LOVES his Winnie the Pooh pacifiers! We've tried other brands but he spits them out.
-sleeps 6-7 hours at night (swaddled & to the womb sounds on the iPod).
-hates taking naps during the day unless he's being held.
-smiles all the time and coos like crazy! He always seems to be on the verge of laughing but we have yet to hear a giggle.
-holds his head up when held over a shoulder but refuses during tummy time.
-recognizes voices, makes eye contact, and follows sounds back and forth.
-is starting to put things in his hand up to his mouth.
-drinks 4-5 oz of breastmilk by bottle every 2-3 hours. I'm still nursing him when I can but he fusses now more than ever at the breast. Part of it could be that he's just used to the bottle, but he's just never been a great eater by breastfeeding. I'm pumping 3-5 times a day and have plenty of milk (10-15 oz each time), so this works for now!
-still loves the Moby but only when asleep. I won't even try to put him in it when he's awake because he screams.
-loves to lay on the ottoman and kick his legs.
-loves taking showers with Mama and having his head massaged and washed.
-has cradle cap, newborn acne (although it gets better each week), and over-productive oil glands that leave his cheeks and belly with red bumps (Dr. B says not to worry– it's normal and he'll grow out of it).
-melts our heats on a daily basis!

Excited for Daddy Part II

I mentioned before that Oliver kicks and coos like crazy when John plays with him. It is so cute and I love capturing those moments on video! Here was last night (it went on for awhile but this is just a snippet):

Baby weight

At my 6-week postpartum doctor appointment, I found out that I had not lost any more baby weight since my 2-week check. In fact, I gained 3 pounds. WHOOPS! Time to get serious about working out now that I'm allowed to. On non-rainy days I can easily pop the baby in the stroller and go for a nice walk, although he seems to hate the stroller unless he's asleep. I met a friend for a walk the other day and while her baby snoozed peacefully in his stroller, Oliver SCREAMED his head off. I ended up carrying him as this was the only solution to get him to stop crying. The kid loves to be held when trying to fall asleep, and I don't blame him. But when trying to kick start a new work out routine, it would be great if he would cooperate! Maybe he was just trying to help since my arms ached and got a good workout from holding him with one arm while pushing the stroller with the other... Anyway, I think the best thing will be to get back to the gym, so it's about time I unfreeze my account. I'm nervous about going since it's been many months since I've been there, but I have to get over that and just go. Until then, maybe this stay-at-home work out will do? Haha!!
