The 6 week growth spurt has arrived!

Dear 6 week growth spurt,

As my child turned 5 weeks yesterday, you made an entrance into our lives. You have now turned my sweet, cuddly and happy baby into a fussy, boob-sucking demon. Ok ok, I know, it's unfair and mean to call this little guy a demon:

But moments after this photo was taken, he started screaming. I'm grateful that I can instantly soothe him by nursing, but I'm not having the best time in the world feeding my baby every 30-45 minutes... A crying baby who can't focus on eating and CHOMPS on my nipple trying to figure out how to get milk out of there. My only hope is that the rumored hibernation babies experience after growing is true! Several resources say Oliver should sleep really well the next few days... We'll see. As for now, dear growth spurt, please do your job quickly, then get the hell out of here.

Sincerely,
Lindsay, John & Oliver
(& our neighbors who say they can't hear the crying baby but are probably lying).

Oliver at 1 Month

At 1 month, Oliver:

- is 10 lbs. (when weighed on our scale at home), up from 8 lbs. 12 oz at birth.
- is wearing size 1 diapers (although they are a little big), and a combination of newborn and 0-3 month clothing. Circo and Carters 3 Month outfits are roomy but fit him perfect lengthwise– the kid is long!
- takes a bottle of breastmilk from his dad and grandmothers without hesitation. But if he hears my voice, he fusses until I leave the room.
- needs a bath every other day because his hair gets greasy! Good thing he enjoys bath time (until he's taken out and gets cold).
- loves his swing. When he's tired he'll cry and fight it, but quickly falls asleep in it.
- loves the Moby and falls asleep instantly.
- sleeps 4-5 hour stretches during the night, usually starting from 10pm to 3am. He sleeps in his own crib and loves it!
- smiles and coos during his awake periods throughout the day. He makes eye contact and coos more when you get in his face and say "goooo!" or "oh!"
- cries hysterically when hungry. There is nothing to sooth him until he has a boob (or a bottle) in his mouth.
- is not interested in a pacifier.
- loves his daddy. You should see the way he studies John's face and coos like crazy when he's holding him.
- is the love of our lives!

Oliver loving his crib toy

Oliver's Yia yia Irene gave him a great crib toy for Christmas that lights up and plays music. We gave it a try the other day when he was awake in his crib, and the kid absolutely went ga-ga over it! It's so fun to watch him now that he's starting to interact a bit more, and is slowly making more cooing sounds. John and I just melt when we hear his little voice!
